Restorative Dental Treatments

Here at our Edgecliff dental practice, we offer a wide range of restorative treatments.

With all of the below treatments, thorough diagnosis and planning is required.  At Edge Dental Care, Dr Lassemillante will assess your particular situation and provide you with all options to allow you to make informed decisions regarding your dental treatment. You can be assured of quality dental care.

Where extensive breakdown has occurred over the years with worn, chipped, broken teeth and fillings, a more complex treatment plan may be required, and in some case full mouth rehabilitation.

Complex procedures cannot be rushed into and adequate time needs to be devoted to carefully diagnose and plan treatment options. To aid diagnosis we will need to do a thorough examination, and in many cases we may require photographs, intraoral x-rays (bitewings or periapicals), OPG xrays, CT scans, study models.  This will to determine possible treatment options to restore the mouth to full function.  Treatment options in such cases may require a combination of procedures.

Tooth coloured fillings

Tooth coloured resin material is used to fill cavities, restore health, shape and function and can also be used to improve aesthetics.

Inlays and onlays

Tooth coloured restorations prepared in the practice and made in a laboratory.  These are ideal when something more a tooth coloured filling is required to provide strength and function.  In some circumstances gold inlays can be used for these type of restorations.

Crowns, or “caps”

A crown is a cover that encloses a prepared tooth

Crowns can be used to reinforce or rebuild a broken down tooth
To protect a tooth that has a fracture in it and stop the crack from spreading
Crowns are usually necessary to prevent a tooth from fracturing following root canal treatment
To improve aesthetics – by changing shape, colour, alignment

The tooth is carefully shaped in the Edgecliff dental clinic in preparation for a crown.  An impression/mould is taken in silicone of the tooth.  The crown is then individually produced in our dental laboratory in Bondi Junction by highly skilled ceramists and technicians.  Dental crowns may either be tooth coloured or gold.

Veneers

Veneers are “false nail” like covers that are bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve appearance (shape, colour, alignment) or to restore the tooth if it has been chipped.

Veneers can be made in a laboratory from porcelain/ceramic or can be resin that is placed directly on the tooth in the dental practice.

Bridges

If a tooth is missing, an artificial tooth can be cemented to adjacent tooth or teeth, thus bridging the gap!  Today’s ceramic and porcelain technologies mean that a bridge does look like beautiful natural teeth.

A bridge is made in a similar method to a crown

Implants

Dental implants can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants are titanium posts placed into the jaw bone and a crown or bridge is attached to the top of the implant to restore the space.

Root canal treatment/Endodontics

Root canal or endodontic treatment,  is when the inner pulp/nerve of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, needs to be removed, the inside of the tooth carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha.

Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection, to rebuild the tooth, for function and for aesthetics.

Removable prosthetics, i.e dentures.

These are removal appliances that are used to replace missing teeth, from a single missing tooth through to when no teeth are present.
